Cleveland Krist Wins Jury Verdict Awarding Substantial Attorneys’ Fees and Expenses

Jul. 2024 | News

On July 3, 2024, a jury in San Antonio, Texas returned a unanimous verdict in favor Cleveland Krist’s client awarding nearly $1 million in attorneys’ fees and expenses for an Austin family that was sued on accusations of fraud following a transaction where the family sold two companies to the group that eventually filed suit. The plaintiff sued Cleveland Krist’s client and alleged millions of dollars in purported damages from what it claimed were financial misrepresentations about the companies involved in the transaction. After nearly five years of litigation, and a weeklong trial in February 2024, a jury rejected the claims of fraud and other wrongdoing, with deliberations lasting less than an hour.  In July 2024, the jury awarded Cleveland Krist’s client a substantial fee award under a prevailing party provision in the underlying purchase agreement for the sale of the two companies.

Tim ClevelandEmi Lawson, and Lulu Ortiz were trial counsel for the Firm’s client, which lasted two days.
